Things to do in Al Wakrah

Al Wakrah is a coastal town roughly 15-20 km south of central Doha, about a 20-minute drive, not a district of the capital itself. It grew as a pearling and fishing settlement, and the waterfront and fish market still work that trade today.

The restored souq is smaller and quieter than Souq Waqif and closes earlier, with fewer stalls open outside the late afternoon and evening. It suits an unhurried end-of-day visit: a walk along the corniche, a look at the old watchtowers, then a fish dinner at one of the seafront restaurants, with mains typically running EUR 8-20.

There is a public beach nearby, best avoided in the peak midday heat of the May-to-September summer.
