Things to do in Al Khor
Al Khor is a working fishing and industrial port roughly 50 km north of Doha, about 45 to 60 minutes by road since no metro or tram line reaches it. The waterfront corniche and dhow harbour are worth half an hour on the way through, not a stay: there is no beach resort or hotel strip here.
Its real purpose is as a gateway, to the grey mangroves of Al Thakira and Purple Island a few minutes further on, reachable by kayak trips that typically run one to two hours, and to Al Zubarah, Qatar's only UNESCO World Heritage Site, about 100 km north-west of Doha.
Most visitors see Al Khor as one stop on a single day out from the capital, not as a base for the night.
