Doha itineraries

A Doha itinerary is best built around how many days are available and how much time those days allow for a desert excursion. A single day realistically covers the city centre: the Corniche, Souq Waqif, and one of the two flagship museums, the Museum of Islamic Art or the National Museum of Qatar, with an evening in Katara or along The Pearl's marina if energy allows. Two to three days let a trip settle into the city properly, adding both major museums, a dhow cruise along the bay, and a half-day desert trip to Sealine for dune bashing and sandboarding.

Four to five days is where a fuller desert route becomes realistic, continuing past Sealine to the Inland Sea at Khor Al Adaid, or heading north instead to Al Khor and the Al Thakira mangroves for a kayaking trip; either direction needs the better part of a day given driving and activity time. A full week opens up combining several regions: city days interspersed with a southern desert excursion and a northern trip to Al Zubarah's UNESCO fort, plus a half-day out west to Zekreet and the Richard Serra sculpture, with Al Shahaniya's camel races added if the visit falls on a weekend morning in season.

Longer stays can reasonably spread these excursions across separate days rather than combining them, particularly in the hotter months when outdoor time needs to be shorter and better timed around sunrise or late afternoon. Whatever the length, it makes sense to lock in desert and northern excursions first, since they depend on daylight and driving time, and build the flexible city days and museum visits around them.
